The Main Street mural recreates a scene on Main Street in Vanceburg, Kentucky from 1963. Dan McCane  grew up in Vanceburg and had many wonderful childhood memories during that period.

Dan’s brother, Joseph A. McCane, operated a Variety Store and Computer repair shop on the corner of Main and Railroad Street until 2002, when the structure was destroyed by fire. Joseph had an apartment upstairs over his
business and died in the fire. Dan McCane designed the mural to honor the memory of his older brother “Joe”.

Dan also wanted to honor the memory of James “Bubbles” Switzer in the mural. James was the fire Chief in Vanceburg for over 27 years.   and a good friend of Joe, who past away in 2009. In 1994, James received an emergency call that
an infant child was choking and his quick response saved the little girl’s life. The infant child, Kellsey, is the granddaughter of Dan McCane

The work on the mural began in 2013 and was completed in June of 2014, at which time it was dedicated to the community. You can reach Dan McCane by visiting the website at www.danmccane.com or by email: 1danmccane@windstream.net.
